Actress Diane Neal, a Hurley resident, launches independent bid for 19th Congressional District seat

TV crime drama actress and Hurley resident Diane Neal has launched an independent bid for New York’s 19th Congressional District seat.

Neal, 41, who had a long-running stint on NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and also a recurring role on CBS’ “NCIS,” is a registered Democrat, according to the Ulster County Board of Elections, and will need 3,500 signatures on petitions to secure a spot on the November ballot as an independent.

Interviewed Sunday in Woodstock, where the six Democrats seeking their party’s nomination in the 19th District had gathered for a debate, Neal noted she has advantage over others seeking the House seat because she already has gotten the better of Donald Trump.

She said they met about 15 years ago when she was a judge on TV show “The Apprentice,” which Trump hosted before he got into politics, and that during an after-party, she endeavored to check whether his hair was real.

“Donald and I are roughly the same height,” she said. “After talking with him for a while, he stood in front of me [with his back turned], and I slipped a chopstick right in that thing because I wanted to see what it was made out of, how it was attached.

“I started getting a nice amount of loft,” she said. “I’m sure that someone has a tape of this somewhere … and I swear to God it was like I was about to see the singularity. It was like all time and space was ending. Then he walked away and he took the chopstick with him, and for the last 15 years, I’ve wondered, where did it fall out?”

Neal said she met Trump more than a dozen times and was never subject to inappropriate behavior by him, which numerous other women have alleged.

“Keep in mind I play the meanest people on TV, and usually I play people with guns,” she said. “People tend not to mess with me.”

Neal played Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak on “Law & Order: SVU” from 2003 to 2008 and again in the 2011-12 season. On “NCIS,” she portrayed Agent Abigail Borin in six episodes between 2010 and 2014.

Neal has lived in Hurley since 2014 and has been active with the Urban Arts Partnership, the Waterkeeper Alliance, the Young Leaders of the RFK Center for Human Rights, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Thirst Project, the Joyful Heart Foundation and the Middle Way House, according to a written statement announcing her candidacy.

She began undergraduate studies at Harvard University in 2009 and expects to earn a degree in May, the statement says.

After listening to the Democratic candidates debate in Woodstock, Neal said she’s pleased with her decision to run as an independent for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. John Faso, R-Kinderhook.

“I heard a lot of really dedicated people who are passionate about this,” she said. “However, what I didn’t hear was how any of them would appeal to anyone outside of this room, [such as] my cross-bow neighbor who gives me sweet venison. He’s not even going to listen to these guys.”

The 19th Congressional District comprises all of Ulster, Greene, Columbia, Sullivan, Delaware, Schoharie and Otsego counties; most of Dutchess County; parts of Rensselaer and Montgomery counties; and a small section of Broome County.

Neal said her political views are “a lot of everything.”

“I’m a little Libertarian, I’m a lot liberal, mostly progressive, but I have this amazing ability to be able to take really complicated policy and break it down into edible sound bites, which is something most progressive liberals cannot do,” she said.

“I love this country,” she added. “The majority of my family, most are active service at the moment. Even my grandmother, who escaped the Holocaust, she came to New York, she joined the Navy. She was a bad ass, she was awesome.”

Neal said she contemplated running for Congress for about a year before deciding she has enough faith in the democratic system to take a chance.

Article Calling For the Return of Abigail Borin to “NCIS”

Posted By: diane neal online | Posted On: September 10, 2017

There is an article that is calling for Diane’s return to NCIS as Abigail Borin. I can’t say that I blame them. Though the article I’ll post below is also calling for Borin to have her own show. I would like to say that it’s about time CBS buried the hatchet and brought Diane back. Enough is enough. Diane had legitimate reasons for her Twitter posts if there were unsafe issues going on. I have to ask if she’d been a man, would there had been a backlash against “him”. I doubt it. So come on CBS, bring Abigail back to the fold. There should have been no Jennifer Esposito character.

NCIS season 15 debate: Should Diane Neal return as Abigail Borin?

September 9, 2017

There are many characters within the NCIS universe that we’ve enjoyed seeing for a rather long time now, but Abigail Borin is near the top of the list. When you think about it, Borin is a person who just makes sense within this universe. The NCIS and the CGIS are going to have a close relationship, much in the way that the Navy and the Coast Guard would. There are collaborations out in the field, and therefore you figure that there would be some collaborations within various cases.

Heck, there’s even been times here and there where we’ve advocated for a CGIS spin-off featuring Diane Neal as a lead. Rather than creating more NCIS series at this point that feature roughly the same sort of thing, doesn’t it make some sense to shake things up ever so slightly? We like to think so.

For the time being, though, we’d settle for getting another Diane Neal appearance on NCIS season 15 proper, given that it’s actually been a little while now since we’ve seen her turn up on the show. She hasn’t been on the flagship show since 2014, and she was most recently on the New Orleans iteration back in 2014. While we’d be happy to see her appear on either, it’d be nice to get her back on NCIS proper. She’s got a great rapport with Gibbs, she gets some of the characters a little closer to the water (it’s nice to have some geographical change-ups), and it introduces some different workplace dynamics. For example, there are several characters on this show at the moment who we haven’t seen her work with.

In general, our feeling is that it makes sense to see Neal and the CGIS for at least a couple of episodes a season. Obviously, she’s not going to be around for every case, and nor does she need to be. We just like the opportunity to continue branching out to other law-enforcement agencies on the show, and to offer the characters a chance to do something different alongside people that they come to know over time.

Do you want to see Abigail Borin on NCIS season 15?

Be sure to sound off in the comments! Meanwhile, if you haven’t seen our take here at CarterMatt on the NCIS season 15 trailer, you can do that over at the link here right now. New episodes will officially kick off in just a couple of weeks on the network, and we’ll have even more news before then. (Photo: CBS.)

“Power” Season One Stills

Posted By: diane neal online | Posted On: May 31, 2015

One more goody for you this AM. I’ve two stills of Diane as player Cynthia Sheridan from the show POWER. I’m hoping with Diane’s commitment to THE FOLLOWING done and so far no NCIS on the horizon, she’ll be asked back for season two of this show. I loved her as Cynthia. And her wardrobe was the bomb.

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” – E13X18 Valentine’s Day Stills

Posted By: diane neal online | Posted On: May 31, 2015

I have a couple of stills for you of Diane from her final episode of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT as our favourite redhead ADA Casey Novak. The episode is Valentine’s Day from the thirteenth season. My gosh I miss both her and Christopher Meloni. The show is just a mish mash of stuff that doesn’t even bear any resemblance to the show it once was and certainly is not about sex crimes of the NYPD. And where’s the LAW of the show? Ah well.

“The Following” – E3X15 The Reckoning Still

Posted By: diane neal online | Posted On: May 15, 2015

I have one still from Diane’s upcoming series finale from THE FOLLOWING Monday night. The show has been cancelled but there is a hope it might be picked up for further seasons. I’ll keep you posted on that as well as if Diane will be continuing on the show.

“The Following” – E3X11 Demons

Second up is Diane’s first appearance on the third season of the FOX television show THE FOLLOWING where Diane was tapped to play the part of an FBI agent by the name of Lisa Campbell. Her other episodes will ‘follow’.

“NCIS: New Orleans” – E1X20 Rock-A-Bye-Baby

Posted By: diane neal online | Posted On: May 15, 2015

I’m playing a lot of clean up here of some of Diane’s work I haven’t gotten up in the gallery yet. So sorry it’s taken me this long but I’ve had some personal issues going on and just haven’t had the time nor the energy to get to them. So here is the first.

This is Diane’s last (hopefully not last, last) appearance on NCIS: NEW ORLEANS as her Coast Guard alter ego Abigail Borin. Here Abigail aids the team in the recovery of a baby. The end scene is so cute. As always Diane brings her best to Borin. I just love her as this character.
